JMT Newsletter - July 2022
Welcome
Welcome to the July Journal of Moral Theology Newsletter.
Earlier this month, the Pontifical Academy for Life published the book Theological Ethics of Life: Scripture, Tradition, Practical Challenges, and invited JMT Editor Therese Lysaught – also member of the PAL – to write an overview of the volume and the seminar from which it emerged. That overview, co-authored with Roberto Dell’Oro, was published earlier this month and is included in the July 2022 issue of the JMT. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, PAL president, said that this book has a “strong emphasis on dialogue and the mutual enrichment between different types of knowledge.” Not surprisingly, some people misunderstood this call for reflection and dialogue, strongly reacting against the book and the PAL. However, I want to stress the importance of dialogue between people from different views. This enriches our Church and the development of moral theology, which is central to the JMT’s mission.
This month, we have three announcements: (1) the July 2022 Issue – Teaching Catholic Social Thought – is now available, (2) invitation to be a book reviewer, and (3) our call for papers.
July 2022 Issue
The July 2022 issue, featuring a symposium entitled “Teaching Catholic Social Thought," is now available. It has the following articles:
Pope Francis has said, “No teacher is ever alone: they always share their work with other colleagues and the entire educational community to which they belong.” We may be especially renewed, therefore, by the extension of this remark to the larger formative community. The university and the pulpit are not the only places where one might be formed in the Catholic social tradition.
